Frequently Asked Questions

Do you accept walk-ins?
Rather than walking-in, we recommend that patients call ahead if they have an urgent need.
At the Family Practice we try to keep same day appointments reserved for urgent needs, so you don’t have to delay treatment when its really important. However, calling ahead gives us the chance to triage your needs and minimise the time you are left waiting in the practice.
Can I get a medical certificate for yesterday?
The short answer is no.
Medical certificates are dated the day of your consult and may include future days if your GP considers this clinically relevant. However, a medical certificate cannot and will not be backdated to cover previous days. To issue a false, misleading or inaccurate certificate would compromise our doctors ethical and legal duties; exposing them to disciplinary action under the Health Practitioner Regulation National Law. Therefore, none of our Gap doctors will write a certificate when they have not witnessed the patient’s condition on those days.
You can learn more about the guidelines and regulations relating to medical certificates from:
Australian Medical Association (AMA)
Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Authority(AHPRA)
Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP)
How do I transfer my medical records?
Your medical records are important. So remember to take them with you when you change medical centres.

Transferring Medical Records To Us
You can ask us to request your medical records from a previous practice at any time. Although, we recommend arranging the transfer prior to or during your first appointment at the our medical centre.
To arrange the transfer we will complete a written request and ask you to sign a transfer authority. We will then send this to your previous medical provider on your behalf. The benefit of transferring your records before your first consult is because it:
  • helps your new doctor make responsible clinical decisions that may have to be delayed if the information is not available,
  • means we have a history of your medications and relevant diagnosis, so we can continue to provide prescriptions,
  • can help ensure we do not “over-service” or refer you for something you have already done and;
  • also tells our doctors which specialists you have seen previously and may prefer to see again.
*Please remember that without your medical history, the doctors may not be able to provide you with some services or may be forced to refuse your requests.
Service Areas
Our Gap medical centre welcomes patients from all nearby areas. With our doctors happy to see patients from Ashgrove, Bardon, Keperra and Upper Kedron, as well as any tourists.
If you have attended one of the Ashgrove family medical centres or any other doctors surgery, remember to transfer your medical records. So your health information is kept together and up-to-date.
