About The Kallangur MTC
Minor Trauma Centre
What is a Minor Trauma Centre?
A Minor Trauma Centre (MTC) is a hospital alternative for minor accident and casualty care. Minor trauma conditions generally need urgent care to prevent complications and promote recovery. Despite that, these conditions are not life or limb threatening in nature and do not require emergency services.
If a condition is considered life-threatening, always call Triple Zero (000) or head straight to hospital.
Visiting a Minor Trauma Centre, instead of an emergency department, also has the benefit of easing hospital congestion. We work with local hospitals and ambulance stations, so they can divert non-emergency patients when needed. This can help free up hospital resources for the real emergencies. Through this local partnership we have become a local fracture care clinic, participating in the Redcliffe hospital fracture pathway program.
The Kallangur MTC not only offers a range of medical services which can save you a trip to the emergency department. Our aim is to also provide these services in a timely manner. Meaning, you won’t be left waiting hours at the hospital. Receive prompt treatment, onsite x-rays and friendly patient care through our minor trauma pathway, any day of the week.
What can a Minor Trauma Centre do?
Minor trauma refers to wounds, injuries and illnesses suddenly sustained that require urgent treatment but are not life or limb threatening. These conditions may require stitches, special dressings, x-rays and plaster casts or medication. We offer:
- Onsite X-ray (provided by Kallangur X-Ray)
- Basic fracture care (plaster cast application)
- Minor burns treatment
- Wound repairs
- Injury management
- Treatment of infection
- Treatment of general sickness
Severe wounds and injuries like compound fractures, dislocations and head trauma should be seen to at a hospital. In the event of an emergency always call 000. We advise patients with the below symptoms to go straight to hospital if possible.
- Head injury
- Chest pain
- Difficulty breathing
- Significant bleeding
- Loss of conciousness
